Ford Mustang Mach-E Test Drive Review

The test drive of the Mustang Mach-E was a joy to behold, yet despite all that power and pizzazz, one of first things to notice about this car was the unusual door handles, which are particularly distinctive; they are electric buttons that ‘pop’ the door open with a small lever.

Once inside its hard not to feel excited about what the interior will offer. The first thing I noticed was the 15.5inch portrait-layout touchscreen and the 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.

The touchscreen offers a plethora of choices including display setting from light to dark and driving modes, Whisper, Active and Untamed. There is a menu for various vehicle systems all available via large-font menu. The screen is big, which though you may think is distracting, the design and layout means your eyes can find what they need quickly, resulting in less time on the screen.

The Mach-E has 2 USB ports, plus a wireless charging pad up front. There is also a second, cable-free pad next to it for a second phone. Both are grippy and have walls on either side to prevent them from flying across the car. There is another pair of USB port in the rear.

The vehicle also includes a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, which cleverly lets you use your phone as a key and utilises the FordPass App to help you monitor charging, find chargers and easily pay for those chargers once found.

The interior feels sporty, modern with a minimalist design and a good selection of options to choose from. The roofline dips towards the rear and a darkened rear cabin makes the inside feel like a coupe.

The ride was comfortable and did not feel as if I was driving an electric vehicle even though I was driving the first half of the journey in Active mode. On the 2nd half of the drive, I switched to the Untamed mode which gave the drive a bit more of an edge, a sharper throttle and the sound of a humming high-powered engine.

In summary, an excellent addition to the Ford family and perfect for a fleet driver who is doing a mixture of city and long motorway journeys.
